Soft starters of the line S811+ are for standard asynchronous motors. The Power-Range depends on the kind of connection, starting at 18.5 kW to 560 kW at 400 V (standard connection) and 30 kW to 900 kW at 400 V connected zin-deltaz. THere, each phase of the soft starter is in line with each winding of the motor (requires 6 wires to the motor, motor only in delta).
The line S811+ has a display to change the parameters for each application. With this display all parameters of the soft starter can be displayed or changed. The keypad is also required to reprogramm the digital and analog I/O of the soft starter.
Alternative to the keypad changes can be done via communication link. There the same possibillities are offered as with the keypad on board. Standard is a Modbus interface, other network interfaces will follow.
Typical applications for a soft starter
Pumps – reduce water-hammer with a special pump control algorythm. Mechanical stress of the system goes down and reliablillity rises
fans – caused by the soft start belts will not slip, aging of the system reduces. Therefore costs of ownership goes down, live-time of the application rises
conveyor belts – instead of a mechincal shock the belts starts softly. Goods on the belt will not fall down, the belt itself will run longer, live-time goes up
compressors – caused by the soft start belts will not slip, aging of the system reduces. Therefore costs of ownership goes down, live-time of the application rises
saws, mixers, mills and crushers – caused by the current limit function current peaks can be avoided. This reduces energy costs for peak load
